About THE SHOW

Even a global pandemic can’t stop birthday girl Carla from celebrating her Quinceañera. Music? Check. Dancing? Check. Gifts? Just one. Carla would really, really, really like you to register to vote!

CARLA'S QUINCE is an immersive virtual experience that invites audiences to become guests at Carla's Zoom Quinceañera.

With the aim of increasing Latinx participation in the United States' electoral process, this non-partisan English/Spanish extravaganza will inform on the voting process, break down some of the issues at stake this election year, and provide space for individuals to reflect on how their voting choices affect their communities. Those who identify as Latinx are especially encouraged to attend!

Free performances will take place throughout September 2020, with audiences invited to immerse themselves in Carla's world through digital platforms beginning July 2020 by signing up for the experience here.

Sobre EL show

Mission & Values

Mission & Values / Misión Y Valores

CARLA'S QUINCE uses theatricality to empower Latinx voters in the U.S. to use their vote to create the change they want to see in their communities. We believe that the right to choose our government officials at the polls is central to a democratic society, and that it is our responsibility as engaged citizens to hold those we elect accountable to work for our common good.

CARLA'S QUINCE is guided by the following values:

Community-Building

We aim to create a joyful space that sparks meaningful connection and reflection amongst audiences before, during, and beyond the show. We recognize that our power to create change in our communities lies in uniting behind common goals while celebrating the richness of our vastly varied experiences as Latinx people.

Accessibility

Our show is free to attend, and accessible for both English and Spanish-speaking audiences. While the virtual nature of the show eliminates geographic barriers, we recognize there are technological barriers that we will work to reduce by partnering with local community organizations that can provide access to the necessary technology for our audiences. If you would like to attend the show but don’t have access to Zoom, contact us and we will work with you to find a way!

Inclusivity

We acknowledge and celebrate that Latinx communities are made up of a myriad of experiences and intersecting identities. We vow to create a safe space for all audience members, inclusive and welcoming of all gender identities, sexual identities, and cultural, ethnic, and racial backgrounds.

Anti-racism

In our process, we seek to constantly interrogate our own biases as Latinx creators of diverse backgrounds. We acknowledge the historical anti-blackness within our own Latinx communities, and the very real ways that as Latinx people we are not only oppressed by white supremacy but can uphold those very systems ourselves in oppression of others. We recognize that this is often an unconscious factor in the voting choices we make, and seek to ignite reflection on how we can dismantle these ingrained biases to create a better world for all.
